A number of SAU students who watched Kamala Harris’ concession speech at her alma mater, Howard University, Washington D.C., are expressing hope.

As the first woman of South Asian and African descent to hold the office of Vice president, following her decisive loss to President-elect Donald Trump, she expressed her gratitude to her supporters, emphasizing their timeless efforts and commitment to the vision of a better future. “Sometimes the fight takes a while…but that doesn’t mean we won’t win.”

SAU sophomore and business management major Grant Macke says “I think that she is going to run again in the future. She said she will not stop fighting for our country even though it will take time.

“Also, she was very confident in what the future holds. I thought it was very professional of her how she called President Trump and congratulated him. Also, she said her and her crew will help Donald Trump with their needs and help him get into the White House peacefully.”

SAU sophomore and human performance and fitness major Kameron Bohnsack adds.  “Her speech seemed to be focused on acknowledging the results of the election, also she thanked her supporters, team, campaign and family.

“She also hammered on the fact that she will not stop fighting for America”

SAU Junior Katelyn Sellers noted her gracious exit. “I think it was important how she started out by saying it was going to be a peaceful transfer of power, and she will uphold the constitution because it was not peaceful last time.

“Also she made it obvious that she would still fight for all Americans and keep fighting for women’s rights and health care and went back to the fact that she will most likely run for presidency again in the future.”

SAU sophomore and business management major Kye Krofta also adds, “She showed pride in wanting to be the first woman and woman of color to be president. She realized that the election might have been a setback but the fight for the future is ongoing. She made a personal appeal to those who may feel discouraged by the results, offering words of encouragement to stay engaged and involved in making meaningful changes.

Eli Gonzalez, a SAU freshman studying business finance reacts, “I think that she took her loss well, she spoke with intelligence back to the audience. She also gave peaceful insights on the government transitions, and I think that is important for the future of our American leaders.”

SAU freshman and nursing major Nick Makwala summarized, “She delivered her speech with integrity, also with respect to her opponent. She made sure that the democratic supporters knew that she was giving power to the next president peacefully.

“By doing that it makes America feel more united. She also made it very clear that she would never give up and never stop fighting for the people who believed in her and supported her.”
