‘Tis The Season for CAB Christmas Events

As the semester comes to a close, students need to complete final exams, papers, and projects and finalize any plans for winter break. This time of year can be stressful, so having a few fun Christmas events is a perfect way to unwind.
The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is partnering with Global Brigades to host a tie-blanket event.
“Global Brigades is a club that strives to combat social determinants of health,” SAU senior nursing major Tori DeClercq says. “In other words, we strive to help get rid of barriers people experience when trying to obtain various resources.”
Global Brigades achieve their mission through volunteering, collaboration, and donation. Their goal is to provide access to services such as healthcare, clean water, education, and mental health resources.
“We are a student-led organization dedicated to empowering communities and addressing their barriers to care,” DeClercq says. “Our mission is to create sustainable change not only in our underserved in Davenport but also in those in rural communities around the world!”
Attendees will choose two types of fabric to make into a cozy blanket while watching The Nightmare Before Christmas. There will be fabric available for students to make both blankets to keep and blankets to donate to the Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.
The final CAB event of the semester is a long-awaited event for many students. Christmas BINGO combines the fun of classic BINGO and unwrapping mystery gifts! If a student wins a BINGO, they are given a ticket that corresponds to one of the wrapped prizes.
This event will also feature a hot cocoa bar and Christmas cookies for students to snack on while they try their luck at BINGO.
At the end of the night, the winners get to unwrap their corresponding prizes in front of all their friends. Prizes for Christmas BINGO include a TV, headphones, a Ninja Creami, LEGO sets, and many other prizes.
While CAB is wrapping up the events for this semester, they are already planning events for next semester. Welcome Back Week, the first week of the spring semester, already has a few events on the docket.
Mentalist and Hypnotist Brian Imbus will be returning for his mind-bending mentalist show. Imbus performed his incredible hypnosis show for Ambrose students at the beginning of the fall semester.
CAB members are also brainstorming events such as ice skating, a card game tournament, and a karaoke event.
CAB is getting new leadership in the spring and will need more members. Students interested in joining CAB can attend Club Fest on January 28th, 2025, and sign up for the email list. If unable to attend, email [email protected] for more information.
