New Technology, More Convenience
By Chloe Melton
Introducing a new addition to St. Ambrose University alongside the newly renovated cafeteria: a new 24/7 convenience store located just next next to The Grove.
This addition brings with it a new self-scan station, leaving the store unmanned throughout the day. But, as with any new technology, it’s involved some trial and error. Matt Ardaugh, Junior and Sodexo employee says “It’s been acting up, people sometimes are scanning rolls of paper towels and it’s showing up as Cheeto bags for like eight dollars.”
This struggle has created issues with Sodexo not knowing which products need to be repurchased. This also brings the topic of theft to the forefront of the C-Shop. In response, Ardaugh says “We have these lovely cameras and there are the same ones in senior resident halls, the same ones you see in your elevator. It’s really a deterrent to prevent people from stealing.”
The C-Shop provides students with the option to get their late night snacks, without the need to leave campus. And it is only available to St. Ambrose students, staff, and faculty with a swipe of your beecard to enter.
“Kids don’t want to be leaving campus late at night,” says Ardaugh. “Their parents don’t want them off campus late at night. They’re able to stay on campus at a central building where it’s safe and protected.”
The Sodexo staff sees the 24/7 C-Shop as a big success so far crediting the fact that it’s constantly in need of restocks.
