Last but Not Least: CAB’s Final Events of the Semester

The end of the semester has approached at a rapid pace, but there are still a few Campus Activities Board (CAB) events left on the calendar.

A recent CAB event to celebrate the end of the semester was the t-shirt launch. CAB Co-Vice President and Design Chair Ella Schmidt designed a new logo for CAB apparel. This logo was printed on 150 t-shirts that were flung from the Rogalski Center balcony to students during passing time between classes.

Food Truck Fest is an annual CAB event where students have the opportunity to get free food from local food trucks on campus. SAU students were each given one voucher to choose a food item for free.

This year’s food trucks included Flavor Train and La Flama. There were also cookies from Cookies and Dreams and sandwiches from Chick-fil-A. You can learn more about Flavor Train here: https://www.flavortrainqc.com/ and La Flama here: https://laflamarestaurant.com/

CAB Co-Vice President and Outreach/Recruitment Chair Will Haugen contacted all the food trucks. “This was the first year that I got to reach out to the food truck vendors. It was really interesting to see that side of the event.”

CAB members say they were worried that students wouldn’t show up for this event, as it had been raining and gloomy all day. To their surprise, the rain cleared up for the food trucks and over 600 students attended. This was CAB’s biggest event of the whole year .

“Over the past three years we’ve done it, attendance has exponentially gone up. In the past, around 300 people would show up. This year we gave out 600 vouchers,” says Haugen.

The Llama Lineup also came back to campus for its second year. Students got the opportunity to pet adorable llamas and enjoy lemonade and SAU’s signature energy drink, Stingers, courtesy of Sodexo. The event was perfect for calming any pre-finals week stress!

Schmidt says the Llama Lineup is one of her favorite events. “I call them therapy llamas because they are therapy llamas. They’re a break from studying, and everyone loves them!”

CAB isn’t quite done yet! Here is a preview for the last couple events of the semester.

Following the llamas, CAB will host one last blood drive of the year. Facilitated through Impact Life, the blood drive will be held on May 8, from 11 am to six pm in the Rogalski Center Ballroom. Students and faculty are encouraged to donate if they are able.

CAB plans to end the semester with a bang, hosting one of their campus-favorite BINGO events. The lucky BINGO winners will have a choice of prizes picked out by the CAB Executive Board. This event will be on May 10 at 9 pm and will also be held in the Rogalski Center Ballroom.

While the CAB events for this school year are coming to a close, it’s never too early to start  planning events for next year’s Welcome Back Week. CAB is hoping to book hypnotist Brian Imbus, Doug’s Wire Writing, and Spin Magic, who have all been to SAU before. CAB is  also hoping to get custom Crocs Jibbitz to give out to students. Please visit this link to see an example of Jibbitz: https://www.crocs.com/p/paw-print/10007449.html?cgid=jibbitz&cid=001

CAB is brainstorming more ideas for next year, and says they are happy to get any suggestions! Students who want updates on current and upcoming CAB events should follow CAB on Instagram @sau_cab and text “CAB” to 71444 for text updates.
