Dance Marathon Celebrates Their 13th Year!
Dance Marathon hosted its 13th Big Event in the Rogalski Center as they celebrated a year of fundraising and dancing for the kids.
For one SAU student, they have been a part of Dance Marathon since he was a kid. Carson Dalaska was a miracle child and is now a volunteer.
“As a kid I got to see, you know, what worked and what doesn’t work, how interactions help these kids and I mean just giving back in a way that I found help,” said Carson Dalaska.
Dance Marathon members were on their feet for 13.1 hours. They had lots of activities throughout the day including: their morale dance, miracle families’ stories, team games, hair cuts, konga lines, and more. Everyone worked together to raise as much money as they could for the last day.
“Just seeing all the hard work come together, this is really the event that we work towards all year long, um, it’s 200 hundred people working towards one goal whether they know it or not. It’s something special, everybody here is doing it, for people other than themselves.” Will Nemecheck, SAU president said.
The volunteers and Dance Marathon members tried to make every minute of the day count for the kids and their families.
“It’s all just about giving back to the kiddos, putting smiles on their faces, I mean it’s just kind of the best day of the year, just walking around seeing smiles everywhere,” Dalaska said.
They raised $180,614.32 for the Iowa Stead Children’s Hospital’s NICU Center.
