Celebrating World Cultures

The Rogalski Center Ballroom was bustling on Sunday, March 30, as representatives from countless cultures, backgrounds, and identities gathered together for the World Cultures Festival.

Hosted by the World Affairs Council of the Quad Cities (WACQC), this annual event featured performances, fashion, and display tables from each culture represented.

The World Cultures Festival was a great opportunity for members of the community and students of SAU to see and learn about aspects of cultures they might not have been exposed to before. Not only that, but it was a chance for attendees to interact with people from different walks of life.

Dr. Duk Kim, political science professor and president of WACQC, emphasized the importance of meeting people from different cultural backgrounds at the festival.

“This is a way to bring people in our communities together,” Kim said. “It’s about interacting with each other. Introducing ourselves, and exposing ourselves to different cultures, and having different food samples and knowing their cultures a little bit more.”

Dora De La Cruz, a junior at SAU and an intern for WACQC, encouraged SAU students to come to future culture festivals.

“It’s really nice to have this event because my culture is also represented,” De La Cruz said. “I would definitely encourage people to come. It’s a really nice event. There’s a lot of cultures I didn’t even realize were being represented, but then I came here and I saw everything, like all the dances and the attire. It’s really nice.”
