Another exciting year of  St. Ambrose Football is sadly over, but there’s been a lot of positives to take away from this year’s season.

The previous two seasons, the Fighting Bees finished with a 4-6 record. After this season, the team improved by two games, finishing 6-4, and finally getting back on the winning track that this program is used to.

St. Ambrose started the season off extremely strong, winning the first four out of their five games.

That loss coming to number one ranked Saint Francis Cougars, who were the back-to-back champions the last two years. Even after a tough loss, the Fighting Bees were still confident that they were a great football team.

The last half of the season was certainly tough for the Fighting Bees, who lost three out of their last five games. Two of the losses came from ranked Marian and Saint Xavier University.

Even after the ups and downs throughout the season, Head Coach of the Fighting Bees Mike Magistrelli liked the way his guys fought throughout the season.

“ We’ve had great stretches and we’ve bounced back well from some defeats too,” Magistrelli said. “Overall that sense of resilience throughout the season has really impressed me.”

As this season came to an end, it was also time to say goodbye to those talented seniors who played for this football program. Junior Defensive Lineman, Sam Kabureck is certainly one player that is going to miss those group of guys.

“I’ve been playing with them since my freshman year so I know them really well,” Kabureck said. “The biggest thing for me is that I’m just going to miss having them there.”

With these seniors moving on, it also provides more opportunity for the lowerclassmen to show what they bring to the table next season. A lot of that young core is coming back next year, which means the future is certainly bright for the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees.
