How long have you been playing volleyball? Did you begin with indoor or outdoor?

I played volleyball for three seasons in high school, and now this is my third year playing almost year round since I graduated. I have a sand court in my yard so I used to try and play with my parents and their friends but they didn't let me very often because I was so bad when I was little, so I guess I didn't start actually playing until high school indoor started.

Why do you play volleyball?

I originally wanted to play water polo in college, but I was so disappointed in how my senior year volleyball season ended that it pushed me to keep playing, and I definitely found a greater appreciation for it. It is the most fun sport I have played. I fell in love with it and haven't stopped since.

Do you favor sand over indoor, or vice versa at all?

I definitely prefer sand over indoor, if I am back in the California weather that is. They both have their positives, though.

Where did you go to school before transferring here to SAU? Did you also play volleyball there?

I went to a San Diego Miramar college, and I played two seasons there after starting the program in 2015.

What brought you here to SAU?

The head coach actually recruited me at a tournament in California, and I liked what the school had to offer, a talented team and good environment, plus indoor beach courts opening up soon in the Quad Cities. This is the only school I went on a visit to, because I had such a good time I knew this is where I wanted to end up.

How are you adjusting to the Iowa weather?

I am not thriving in this weather, this early November cold is about as cold as I have ever seen it in San Diego, and yes I know it gets colder. Feel free to donate warm clothes to me.

Has playing volleyball here at SAU help you adjust to the school change?

Playing here and getting closer with the team definitely has made the transition so far from home easier. I don't get to see my friends or family for months on end, so it’s great that practice and my new friends and the team keep me busy.

What are your thoughts on the men's preseason performance so far?

Our preseason has just given a glimpse of how good we could be this year. We need some more practice time to get playing as well as we can, but we have seen so much good stuff early on that I can say we have a promising season ahead of us.

What can we expect to see from the men's program this year?

I think you could expect the men's program to compete at the highest level, we have ever chance to go to nationals and win a title if we continue to play cohesively and grow each practice and match.

There are a lot of new recruits this season. How do you think that is going to be when mixed in with players who have been playing together the past few years?

Well I wasn't here to play with the team last year, as I am one of the new recruits, but I think our coach did a great job recruiting and added a lot of depth to the team, and the freshmen will grow into major role players as the upperclassmen graduate, so the program is in good hands for a while.
